چکیده
This paper highlights some facets of motion typology, applied here to mainly English and French. These two languages are not perfect examples satellite-framed verb-framed languages, in Leonard Talmy’s well-known but they can nonetheless be shown differ a number related respects: compared (and other Germanic languages), French (like Romance languages) is quite constrained its use Manner-of-motion verbs. also lacks true particles – Path satellites without Ground that syntactically detached from the verb. Drawing on my previous research, I briefly discuss simple apparently sufficiently efficient corpus -based translation studies reveal these differences show up when we compare texts originally written with translated vs. German (or languages). A third, more recent, study contrasts single novel Dutch translations, focusing expressions visual motion. Here, too, basic encoding preferences (satellite-framed verb-framed) exhibit for actual appear apply, by large, lists precursors Talmy, one whom famously linked linguistic relative hypothesis. It suggested French, because typological nature, may urge speakers convey much detail (neither Manner nor Path) remains an open question, goes beyond purview linguistics, whether this stylistic difference matched deeper cognitive one.

An invitation to reproducible computational research.
I am genuinely thrilled to see Biostatistics make a formal venture into computational reproducibility, and I congratulate the editors of Biostatistics on taking this much needed step. I find the policies being adopted by Biostatistics eminently practical, and I hope that many authors will begin using this option. In my comments, I will try to explain how I came to believe in the importance of r...

متن کاملAn Invitation to Play
Parity games and their subclasses and variants pop up in various contexts: μ-calculus, tree automata, program verification [3, 1, 8]. Such games provide only binary information indicating the winning player. However, in classical games theory [12] the emphasis is rather on how much we win or lose. Can we incorporate the information about the profits and losses into parity games?
